ICYMI Bookish News that happened the week of February 3:
Iβm guessing a lot of you are watching the Super Bowl right nowβ¦
Hi, friends,
Starting off with a not so fun gentle reminder⦠if you are in an author group on Facebook, Discord or even Instagram, the authors usually are moderators and DO read the posts. Those are their safe spaces and not the place to complain or criticize their writing. Over the last week within numerous groups author PAs and authors themselves have had to step in with reminders of their group rules due to influxes of negative posts. There are plenty of other places on the internet to do this, but absolutely not in an author group.
Anyways, I went on another long walk today and got some delicious matcha. Letβs get into some bookish newsβ¦
ICYMI Bookish News that happened the week of February 3:
Ali Hazelwoodβs new release Deep End created a lot of discourse surrounding the amount of spice in books and the warnings that should/shouldnβt come with itβ¦ In case you missed it, the book used to be called Whet, and the cover itself suggests that it is spicy. I have not read it yet but I am told there is a letter explaining what readers would be getting into at the start of the book (apparently some people missed it, or disregarded it and then were alarmed as they made their way through the book). I understand everyone has a different tolerance for spice, but I just finished her popular paranormal romance Bride and I was shocked at how little spice there was (I was prepared for their to be a ton by the way people reacted).
A publisher that I have never heard of decided to let everyone know they were #sickofthesmut. Safe to say, it was poorly received. A ton of authors spoke out about it. Here is the post and I will let you read the comments:
Kayla Edwards pushed back the release date of the next book in her House of Devils series. I am so looking forward to City of Smoke and Brimstone and hope Kayla gets the rest she needs.
Carissa Broadbant announced that her War of Lost Hearts series is going to be rereleased via Bramble and the three books will get new covers. This is SUCH an amazing seriesβ¦I highly recommend it.
Two of my favorite authors, Dana Evyn and Megan Van Dyke are opening up their street teams again. If you are looking to join and get some swag and ARCs, I highly recommend applying! Here is Danaβs application and here is Meganβs.
Tessonja Odette revealed the cover of the next book in her Fae Flings and Corset Strings series. It is SO cute and I highly recommend this series for some great fantasy rom-coms. Elegance Espionage is book 3 in the series.
What Iβm currently reading:
I just started an eARC of Silvercloak by L.K. Steven and wow I am loving it so far. Itβs like an adult version of Harry Potter but with mafia vibes? And magic is fueled by both pleasure and pain. I will report back once I am done.
As always, let me know what youβre currently reading and loving.
Lots of love,
Char
